2008 Fall Workshop

Our first workshop for the third year of the grant introduced participants to the two themes for this year, 1) Economic and Technological Changes and Their Relation to Society, Ideas, and the Environment and 2) The Changing Role of America in the World, and to our work in teacher renewal, through a study of Parker Palmer's The Courage to Teach.

 

Friday, November 14

Dr. Peter Dorman spoke with us about the state of child labor in the US and around the world. Dr. Dorman is the author of Investing in Every Child: An Economic Study on the Costs and Benefits of Eliminating Child Labour for the United Nation's International Labor Organization.

 

Saturday, November 15

Dr. Tony Zaragoza gave us an overview of the Washington apple economy, with a focus on labor issues.

Dan Duffy led us around Centralia, discussing the Centralia Massacre and Centralia's economic growth through historic preservation.
